From Monday, 7 April 2025, the CBR will introduce a new theory test for the car driving licence.
The biggest change? The new test has 50 questions and will be taken in one continuous session.

🚙💨 No changes in difficulty 

The new theory test has the same level as the current one. This means you don’t need to study anything new. Hazard Perception question format will be removed. Instead, you will see short animation videos in some questions.

It’s still important to start preparing on time and choose a learning method that works for you.

Here’s what you need to know to prepare:

🔹 What’s changing?

✅ Fewer questions: The test will have 50 questions instead of 65.
✅ Hazard perception removed: The separate photo test will disappear and be part of the main test.
✅ New structure: Knowledge and Application questions are combined (about 1/3 knowledge, 2/3 application).
✅ Animated videos 🎥: Some questions will now include short videos to show real traffic situations.
✅ One result: No separate scores per section. You pass if you answer at least 44 out of 50 questions correctly.
✅ Same time limit: You will have 30 minutes (or 45 minutes if you take the extended, individual, or interpreter test).

🎯 Why these changes?

The CBR wants to make sure drivers don’t just know the traffic rules but also understand how to use them in real situations. The new test format helps check this better by using videos and integrated hazard awareness questions.

📖 How to prepare? 

The test content stays the same, but it’s important to practise with the new question style and animations. Choose a study method that suits you and start preparing early!

📅 How to book a theory test? 

You can book your theory test in one of the following ways:

• Book it yourself via Mijn CBR. See below for instructions. You need your DigiD.
• Book through your driving school. Contact your instructor. You must first authorize them. 
• Booking by phone is not possible.
  
  

💻 Booking a theory test via 'Mijn CBR' 

1. Log in to Mijn CBR.
2. Click on ‘Examen reserveren of wijzigen’ (Book or change test).
3. Choose your vehicle category.
4. Select theory test.
5. Pick a location, date, and time.
6. Check your booking and click 'Ga verder' (Proceed).
7. Check your personal details.
8. Read the terms and conditions and tick the box to agree.
   Important: You cannot cancel the test after payment!
9. Pay online to complete your booking.
10. After payment, you will receive a confirmation email with your test invitation attached.

🚫 Beware of booking websites! 

Some websites look like the official CBR website but charge extra fees. Always book via Mijn CBR to avoid paying more.

ℹ️ Good to know

• You can only book one test per category.
• You can book different types of theory tests (e.g. car and motorbike).
• You can reschedule a theory test booked via Mijn CBR.
• Need extra time, an English test, or a translator? Check your options.
• Want to rebook after failing? You must wait until your result is in the system.

• No DigiD? Fill in the theory test request form and send it to CBR.
  • Once approved, you will receive an email invitation (at least 3 weeks before the test date).
  • Important: If you book via this form, you cannot reschedule online. Contact CBR Customer Service if needed.
